Book Haul: Shifting Perspective

Ongoing exposure to workplace harm, unclear communication tactics, and constant organizational change will result in increased feelings of uncertainty and mistrust, and in the absence of clear directives and/or outcomes, we’re more likely to create internal narratives that may protect us in the short term, but that also decrease our ability to identify positive opportunities or plan for substantive concerns. Negative self-talk, rumination, and paralyzed decision-making may increase as we heed large shadows of dust mites.

Here are a few books that may help reconsider what and how we see issues and environments, even if skepticism feels settled in.

Rugg, G. & D’Agnese, J. (2013). Blind spot: Why we fail to see the solution right in front of us. New York: HarperOne.

Sharot, T. & Sustein, C.R. (2025). Look again: The power of noticing what was always there. New York: One Signal Publishers.

Tierney, J. & Baumeister, R.F. (2019). The power of bad: How the negativity effect rules us and how we can rule it. New York: Penguin Press.

Zaki, J. (2025). Hope for cynics: The suprising science of human goodness. New York: Grand Central Publishing.

More to consider:

Duffy, B. (2019). Why we’re wrong about nearly everything: A theory of human misunderstanding. New York: Basic Books.

Vignola, N. (2024). Rewire: Break the cycle, alter your thoughts, and create lasting change. New York: HarperCollins Publishers.
